Update
The Way Ahead
By

SCCT
CEO
Fall
is a time of changes, and you may have noticed the
newsletter changing subtly over the past few
months. In order to best keep the SCCT
membership informed, we have been adapted our
newsletter, one of our primary communication
outlets, with an updated format and new
informational sections.
The
"SCCT in the News" section focuses on public
relations activities and recent news updates
pertinent to SCCT and its members - Did you catch
the mention of SCCT's Annual Meeting in the
Journal of Thoracic Imaging blog? If not,
we've got you covered. Maybe you've been on
vacation - and didn't get a chance to read some of
the SCCT email blasts that showed up in your
inbox. We've kept them safe for you, and archived
them in the Press Room section of
our website as well. SCCT
intends to use this newsletter section to continue
to work with its associated groups and societies -
to not only publish reviews where SCCT is
mentioned, but also link the membership to the
latest buzz.
We have also launched a new
section called "SCCT Committee Update." As you may
know, SCCT's committees cover a wide range of
topics, and are truly the foundation upon which
the Society grows. Many of our members have
generously given their time and effort to either
chair or participate on committees; we are deeply
thankful to our members who not only volunteer
their time, but often come forward of their own
accord with ideas and suggestions. This dedication
is both gratifying and necessary for SCCT to
continue as a leader in the field.
The
"SCCT Committee Update" section will keep members
abreast of current committee activities, so that
not only can you be aware of what your fellow
physicians, researchers, technicians, and nurses
are working on, you may notice a committee where
you might be interested in making a future
contribution.
After
careful discussion and review of feedback gathered
from the membership, the Executive Board approved
several new committees, confirmed the continued
participation of many previous committee members,
and invited a large number of new members and
chairs for both the new and existing committees. A
fresh infusion of experts in the field keeps our
committees active and moving forward with new
projects and educational efforts for the field of
cardiovascular CT.
During this season of
change, don't forget to renew your SCCT membership
for 2011. Renewing now will ensure you don't miss
out on any of the high-value benefits SCCT has to
offer. Please click here to renew your membership
online. As always, if you have any
questions, the SCCT staff would be happy to help:
please contact us at info@scct.org. Thank you for
your membership, and your support of SCCT!

The
Latin American International Regional Committee
held its first Annual Meeting at the International
Course of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and
Cardiac PET. This took place on October 21- 22,
2010, at the National University of Mexico in
Mexico City. The course covered every aspect
related to coronary CT, including: basic concepts
of acquisition, processing, and analysis of CT
images, selection of the patient, identification
and characterization of normal and pathological
coronary arteries obtained by coronary CTA,
correct interpretation and adequate report
elaboration of a coronary CTA, highlight the
importance and correlation of anatomical and
functional information offered by the hybrid
PET/CT appropriateness criteria for realizing CTA,
among others.
The
lectures reviewed methodical fundamentals and
clinical application. The course offered
workstations operated by the invited faculty. An
important objective of the course was
consolidating the Latin-American International
Regional Committee of the SCCT, by realizing the
First Meeting of this recently formed
Committee.
Many
expert SCCT faculty spoke at the meeting,

IRC
The
4th Annual Meeting of Japan Regional Committee of
SCCT was successfully held at Tokyo Conference
Center Shinagawa, Tokyo on September 4, 2010. The
meeting had 284 attendees including 133

program featured high quality talks and
discussions including two symposia, general oral
sessions, reports from SCCT Board members and
lectures by two distinguished guest speakers from
SCCT, Dr. Frank J. Rybicki and Dr. Tony DeFrance,
FSCCT. In
the first symposium, radiology technicians,
radiologists and cardiologists gave talks from
individual point of view in terms of providing
high quality images, important points in
interpretation of coronary artery stenosis on
coronary CTA and how to apply CT data to
therapeutic decision making. The second symposium
featured explanations and discussion of three
major cardiac CT guidelines. The important points
of these guidelines were summarized, with
discussion on how to exploit these cardiac CT
guidelines in the clinical
practice.
The
Committee also introduced an educational project
they have been working on, which consisted of a
new, web-based learning system with 650 cases in
the database. In each case, a set of question and
answer are prepared and can be accessed online as
a unique education system.
A
special report from the 4th Annual Meeting of
Japan Regional Committee of SCCT by guest speaker
